Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 hungry children who would grow up in the same household, figured out very early how to get out of her difficulties through her vibrant and imaginative imagination. Before she learned to read and write she was making up her own songs. When she got her first guitar at the age of 8, she began performing at radio stations in Knoxville in Tennessee. The same year she released her debut recording for Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. While in high school, she made herself known to the school community but her goals were bigger. The singer moved to Nashville the day after graduating in 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were the first two albums to chart from Monument Records. The syndicated television show of Porter Wagoner was in need of an additional singer around the time. Parton accepted the role in the year 1966. She joined RCA Records in 1968, and then the Grand Ole Opry was founded in 1969. Parton quit the Wagoner's band in 1974 when her solo singles like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene oversold her collaborations. Parton recorded I Will Always Love You for Wagoner in the aftermath of their breakup. It made it to No. #1 for the first time in 1974.
